Call for Applications

 
The Institute for Public Policy, with support of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the OSCE, is pleased to announce the IPP Visiting Fellowship for political science researchers and analysts focusing on Kyrgyzstan.

The goal of the fellowship is to contribute to quality research on various aspects of Kyrgyzstan politics. The fellowship provides foreign researchers with an opportunity to carry out field work in Kyrgyzstan, and thus incorporate more local knowledge and experience into their research output. Specific research areas include, but are not limited to:

-         Political institutions in Kyrgyzstan

-         The role of informal politics in Kyrgyzstan;

-         Public policy making in Kyrgyzstan

-         Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia (or wider)

Applicants are expected to have developed a detailed research project proposal for the fellowship duration, and to have specified a project output.

Eligibility:

Potential applicants are expected to possess a PhD or be enrolled in a doctoral program at the time of application, and to have publications in their research field. Kyrgyz and/or Russian language skills will be an advantage. Eligible candidates would include university professors, PhD students, and researchers/analysts at public policy research centers.

Citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic are not eligible for this fellowship.

Fellowship details:

The fellowship duration is one month, to take place within February and March, 2007. Only one fellowship is available at the moment. The fellowship will reimburse round-trip airfare to and from Kyrgyzstan (economy class only), and cover private accommodations in Bishkek as well as the costs of visa. The fellow will also receive a small stipend to cover living expenses in Bishkek.

-       CV and cover letter

-       Project proposal (no more than 1000 words) for the project you would undertake during the fellowship. In addition, please specify the project output. If the fellowship project is part of a wider research project, please include additional information on the research and specify how a fellowship at the IPP would contribute to the wider project.

-       Letter of recommendation

The deadline for applications is January 15, 2007. All application materials, as well as inquiries, must be sent to Shairbek Juraev at s.juraev@ipp.kg, with the subject heading “Visiting Fellowship.”

The Institute for Public Policy is a Bishkek-based independent organization that was founded in April 2005. It aims at promoting formation of a practice of public policy and development of mechanisms of constructive interaction between state institutions, civil society, mass media and businesses. The Institute supports partner relations with many participants of public and political processes and aims at involving the public in the process of decision making.
